It’s been forever!
It’s been forever (about a year or so) since I’ve written a post. So I had a break today. I decided to go ahead and write a few recipes down for my few followers and anyone else that’s interested. I’m gonna do 5. 1 from each book/app and a personal mix.
Here’s a simple drink:
The Black Russian
- 1 1/2 oz vodka
- 3/4 oz coffee liqueur
Pour over ice in an old fashion glass and you’re set. Add some lemon juice and it’ll turn into a Black Magic.
Gin Southern
- 1 1/2 oz gin
- 1/2 oz Southern Comfort
- 1/4 oz grapefruit juice
- 1/4 oz lemon juice
Shake well with ice and strain into prechilled glass. If you’re like me and like things a little sweet, you can add just 1/4 oz more SoCo and 1/2 oz more grapefruit juice. It’s good stuff.

I pulled this one out at random and thought it sounded rad.

Broken Leg Martini
- 2 oz of vodka
- 1 oz of Grand Marnier
- 3 oz cranberry juice
2 sticks of cinnamon
Combine the liquids in a shaker with crushed ice and shake away. Strain into a martini glass. Garnish with an orange slice and a stick of cinnamon. Then break the other stick and drop in the “leg”. This sounds good. I think I might try this one this weekend.
Time for a little fun with shots.
This one is called

Maybe Later
- 1/3 oz of Blue Curacao
- 1/3 white creme de cacao
- 1/3 white creme the menth
Just layer it into a shot glass, throw back and enjoy.
Now for all my fellow nerds…
Jedi Mind Trick
- 1 oz Amaretto
- 1 oz Dark Rum
- 1 oz Coffee Liqueur
- 8 oz Vanilla Ice Cream
Combine ingredients in a blender. Blend until smooth. Serive in a hurricane glass. Garnish with a cherry.
Good… Good… Give in to the booze…

Tequila Mockingbird

Now I absolutely love this beer. New Belgium’s Fat Tire is a fantastic beer. My cousin, Robert, first introduced me to this beer years ago. He was down for a visit and we were making a trip to pick up some suds and he saw this beer and snagged it up. It was a happy surprise for him to find it. He told me about how hard it was to find it back in his hometown and how much he enjoyed it. So I knew I had to give this one a try.
Appearance 5 Now it’s not the clearest of beers ever, but that has to do with the ingredients. Sometimes you might see a bit of the spices mixed in. I kinda enjoy this to be honest with you. Now I gave this a 5 because as the scale goes in .5 score increments, I didn’t feel it deserved a 4.5 so I raised it to the 5. I may have been think it deserved a 4.8 when I originally reviewed the beer. But looking at the picture to the right, it’s a great looking beer. It does have a good frothy head. The head does stick around for a bit, but does give it an incredible look.
Bottle, Can, Glass? Well, Fat Tire can now be found in cans. I have yet to try it in cans, however. Am I going to try it in a can? Heck yeah. It’s worth trying. But New Belgium, can you make six packs? Because I can only find it in 12 packs. But between bottle and glass? Other than my first experiences with this beer, I’ve always drank it out of cold glasses. A chalice or goblet works best, but your favorite tumbler or pint glass is fine. Bottles are okay, but when you can have this guy in a glass, do it.
Now, I gotta admit, I’m quite taken with Newcastle Brown Ale. It’s a fantastic beer. When I first reviewed this beer I gave it very high marks. Again for this review, I’ll be using Beer Universe’s scoring system: Aroma, Appearance, Flavor, Palate on a 5 star rating score in 1/2 star increments.
Aroma 4.5 Now it does have a light aroma. I picked up a smell of malts and bread. The bread smell can be probably attritubed to the amount of yeast used. Also you might be able to pick up a slight nutty smell. Mind you, I’m recovering from a cold and my sniffer might not be back to 100%.
drink that night. I’ve found that when mixing beers, Newcastle will seem the odd man out especially if you’re mixing it with domestic lagers. But enjoy the beer all you can. It’s a great beer and I’m HIGHLY recommending it.
I wrote a review for this beer last year on
On the aroma, I gave it a 3.5. You get a light malty aroma from it, but nothing that screams out anything really special.
Now when I add salt and lime the flavor is great. But that is usually true of any Mexican beer. I usually a particular brand of beer salt called Twang. It comes in a little beer bottle shaped container and already has a lemon and lime flavor. It’s even pretty groovy with chips and salsa. It’s made about 150 miles north of here in good ol’ San Antonio, TX. It’s really not too expensive. I usually just pick these up at gas stations or grocery stores. Not only does it go well with Mexican beers, but it works really well with Bud Light. Basically, the only way I’ll drink Bud Light. Not that I’m a beer snob, but Lagers have just never really been for me. (It’ll be explained when I finally review a Bock beer.)
focusing on a few drinks with “Sex” in their names. The classic Sex On The Beach in several variations, Sex In The Desert, Sex with an Alligator, Sex on the Brain, and maybe a few others if my fingers can type it all.
